Operations With a Fundraiser’s Eye

I build the systems that let good work scale.

For nearly thirty years I have worked in advancement and I was always the one who ended up building what sat underneath it. That work now has four homes: an operations firm, a referral network, a software platform and a book.

The Method

Edited for Scale.

Everything I build runs on the Editor-Architect Framework. Editing comes first, because the fastest way to give a team its capacity back is to take something off its plate.

01

Edit the Friction

Find what slows the work and remove it first.

02

Architect the Flow

Design how work moves the way the team really operates.

03

Curate the Space

Keep only what belongs and clear what piled up.

04

Protect Capacity

Build systems that look after the people running them.

About

Erin Peshoff

I have spent 28 years in advancement and there is probably not a job in nonprofit fundraising I have not done, from data entry to major gifts. I have raised more than $100 million and supported campaigns as large as $350 million. In every role, the part I loved most was underneath the fundraising: the database, the process, the report the board could finally trust.

For a long time I made myself be a frontline fundraiser, because that is what I was told you do. When I went back through every job, every failure and every success, I found I was happiest doing systems work. Vivid grew out of that: operations with a fundraiser’s eye, because it does not have to be this hard.

I am Founder of Vivid Operational Advisors, where the work runs on the Editor-Architect Framework. We edit the friction, architect the flow, curate the space and protect capacity, so the organization is edited for scale and a little less rests on its leaders every month. I also convene the Kitchen Garden Network, a circle of consultants I trust to send clients to. I am building Evenly with Jeff Peshoff and finishing my first book. Home and the office are in Leesburg, Virginia.
